Expansion of Scottsdale’s Museum of the West
Western Spirit: Scottsdale’s Museum of the West has announced plans to add an additional 12,000 square feet to its current location at 3830 N. Marshall Way. The Scottsdale City Council approved this expansion endeavor in September, thanks to a generous $12 million donation from Louis “Buzz” Sands IV, a local entrepreneur and car dealership owner.
Since opening in 2015, the Smithsonian Affiliate museum has been pivotal in preserving the cultural heritage and history of the American West. The expansion signifies a continuation of the museum’s commitment to inspire future generations with the legacy of the American West.
“This is a significant moment for Western Spirit,” says Todd Bankofier, the CEO and Executive Director. “We are incredibly grateful to the Scottsdale City Council and Louis ‘Buzz’ Sands IV for their unwavering support. This expansion will secure our institution as a cherished hub for cultural enrichment, education, and inspiration.”
The renowned architectural firm Studio Ma, alongside Core construction, will undertake the expansion project. Construction is set to commence in January 2024, with completion aimed within a two-year timeframe.
Western Spirit continues to feature ever-changing exhibits of Western and Native American art and artifacts, bringing the West’s heritage, culture, and community to life. For more information, visit Scottsdale Museum of the West.
