Unwittingly Recorded Women in Arroyo Grande’s Gym Tanning and Red-light Therapy Rooms
Arroyo Grande’s authorities are currently on the quest to unveil the identities of countless women, who were allegedly recorded without their consent inside the tanning booths and red-light therapy rooms of a local gym. This incident, which took place in Planet Fitness located at the 1500 block of Branch Street, has raised significant concerns about privacy and safety in fitness clubs.
Initial Discovery of the Incident
As per the Arroyo Grande Police, officers were dispatched to the aforementioned fitness center on December 29 following a report that a man was caught filming a partially unclothed woman inside a tanning booth. However, the suspected individual had vanished by the time police arrived on the scene. Regardless, they were able to pinpoint a potential offender with the help of surveillance footage and testimonials from eyewitnesses.
Findings from the Search of Suspect’s Residence and Electronics
Following a comprehensive search of the suspect’s residence and digital devices, police stated that “officers found evidence that suggests the suspect has committed similar offenses multiple times within the last year.” The suspect allegedly managed to gain access to the locked tanning booth rooms and recorded videos of women, either nude or semi-nude, unbeknownst to them. The exact method used by the suspect to unlock the booth doors and record the women remains a mystery to the police.
Evidence Found and Suspected Victims
Investigators discovered over 50 videos showcasing female gym members inside the tanning and red-light therapy rooms during a forensic review of the evidence. As per police records, these recordings were made between January and December of 2025. The police believe that there are approximately 47 individual victims, with the majority of them yet to be identified.
