Ex-Congressman Matt Gaetz Accused of Sex Trafficking in Florida Lawsuit

TL/DR –

Former Congressman Matt Gaetz has been accused of sex trafficking two young women, identified as Jane Doe 1 and 2, in a lawsuit filed in a Florida district court. The lawsuit alleges that between 2017 and January 2019, Gaetz and others “coordinated the recruitment, payments, drugs, and travel to obtain commercial sexual acts” from the women, who were recent high school graduates at the time. Gaetz, who has denied the allegations, resigned from Congress in 2024 following a sexual abuse scandal and withdrew his nomination to serve as Attorney General due to scrutiny over the allegations of sex trafficking and drug use.

Ex-Republican congressman Matt Gaetz is accused of sex trafficking two women in a lawsuit filed in Florida. Gaetz denies the allegations, stemming from a prior sexual abuse scandal leading to his resignation from Congress in November 2024.

The lawsuit, filed in Florida‘s US district court, alleges Gaetz and two others exploited the women for commercial sexual acts from 2017 through early 2019. The victims, identified as Jane Doe 1 and Jane Doe 2, were reportedly recent high school graduates at the time of the alleged misconduct.

Defendant Joel Micah Greenberg, a close associate of Gaetz, pleaded guilty to six federal offenses in May 2021 and was sentenced to 11 years in federal prison.

Gaetz states the lawsuit is based on a congressional report that didn’t allow him to confront his accusers.

The congressional report in question was part of a bipartisan House ethics investigation into Gaetz’s alleged misconduct. Gaetz resigned from his congressional seat and withdrew his nomination for attorney general amid scrutiny over allegations of sex trafficking and drug use.

The committee investigated payments Gaetz made to women for sex and drugs on multiple occasions. It also found evidence of him engaging in sexual activity with a 17-year-old girl in 2017. Gaetz continues to deny any wrongdoing.

The recent complaint alleges that the victims were recruited through SeekingArrangement.com. The lawsuit further states that the victims were financially exploited and forced to engage in sexual activities with various men on several occasions.
