TL/DR –
FBI agents have seized documents and computer files from the office of Ohio Organizing Collaborative, a group that supports voter registration efforts. The agents also visited the homes of people who have worked with the organization, seeking information about alleged voter fraud. The latest action by the Trump administration comes amidst concerns of potential political bias within the FBI and the Justice Department, with Democrat Sherrod Brown, urging the FBI to make public “any and all activities around these raids.”
FBI Agents Investigate Ohio Voter Registration Support Group
OHIO – FBI agents conducted a search at the office of an Ohio organization that assists in voter registration efforts, seizing documents and computer files, according to a board member of the group on Friday.
The latest operation by the Trump administration targeting voting or election operations occurs in a state with highly contested races for governor and U.S. Senate this fall.
Federal agents arrived at the Ohio Organizing Collaborative’s Cleveland office on Thursday, questioning staff for several hours, said Prentiss Haney, a board member of the grassroots organization. The organization fights for criminal justice reform, racial justice, and voting rights expansion.
Haney reports that federal agents visited homes of individuals involved with the organization, seeking interviews and information about alleged voter fraud. Haney accused agents of “harassment and intimidation tactics” and expressed concern about the investigation’s potential impact on upcoming elections.
The probe’s focus remains unclear, but an anonymous source close to the matter stated investigators are examining possible fraud violations on Friday.
The Justice Department declined to comment, and an FBI spokesperson in Cleveland did not respond to messages on Friday. To obtain a search warrant, federal authorities must convince a judge that there’s probable cause for criminal activity. However, Democrats are skeptical about the foundation of the search due to ongoing concerns of a politicized FBI and Justice Department.
Dr. Amy Acton, former public health director and Democratic challenger to Republican Vivek Ramaswamy, stated that any attempts by federal law enforcement to intimidate eligible Ohioans from registering to vote are unacceptable.
Democrat Sherrod Brown, who is challenging Republican Senator Jon Husted in the fall, called for transparency from the FBI regarding these raids.
In Trump’s second term, the Justice Department launched several legal actions related to voting or state election operations. Ballots and other records from the 2020 election for Georgia’s Fulton County and Arizona’s Maricopa County were among the items seized by the FBI.
Allegations of voter registration fraud are typically investigated by states and often involve individuals paid for sign-ups. California officials opened an investigation into potential signature-gatherer payments for ballot petition signatures earlier this year. In 2025, Pennsylvania officials charged seven individuals for submitting fraudulent voter registration forms.
