Jeanine Pirro: From Fox News Host to Top Federal Prosecutor Under Trump

TL/DR –

President Trump has tapped Fox News host Jeanine Pirro for the role of the top federal prosecutor for Washington DC, despite the belief of many that she is unqualified for the position. Pirro, a former district attorney, has a controversial record at Fox and has shown strong loyalty to Trump throughout their long friendship. This is the 23rd time that Trump has chosen a former Fox employee for his administration, following the controversial appointment of Pete Hegseth as defense secretary.

Jeanine Pirro Nominated by Trump for Top Legal Position

The Trump administration continues its symbiotic relationship with right-leaning Fox News, as Jeanine Pirro is nominated for the role of top federal prosecutor for Washington DC.

Despite criticisms of Pirro’s qualifications, or lack thereof, especially when compared to recent controversial appointment of Pete Hegseth as defense secretary, the president appears unconcerned.

Pirro, a former county-level district attorney and host on The Five, Fox’s popular talkshow, hasn’t held a government legal role for decades.

Trump praised Pirro in his social media announcement of her interim (and possibly permanent) prosecutor appointment, noting her unique qualifications.

However, Pirro’s past at Fox isn’t without controversy. She was reprimanded for promoting Trump’s misinformation about supposed voter fraud in the 2020 election, which was part of a defamation lawsuit against Fox. The network later paid nearly $800m to settle the case and acknowledged false claims.

Pirro’s suspension from Fox for negative comments on representative Ilhan Omar’s wearing of a hijab, and her call for a “cleansing” of the FBI and Justice department, doesn’t appear to affect the president’s decision.

Despite her controversies, Pirro has remained steadfastly loyal to Trump, a quality the president highly values.

As observed by Matt Gertz of Media Matters, Pirro consistently praises Trump and criticises his adversaries. She is the 23rd former Fox pundit to join Trump’s administration.

Nevertheless, her nomination isn’t without potential issues. Questions arise concerning the number of acting US attorneys the president can consecutively appoint.

Despite these concerns and the controversial start of Hegseth as defense secretary, Trump remains confident in his choices.

Evidently, a Fox News background, coupled with loyalty to Trump, are high on the president’s list of requirements.
