Karoline Leavitt, the youngest White House press secretary during President Donald Trump’s second term, is leaving her post for family reasons.
Leavitt, 28, announced her departure on Truth Social, stating she would focus on her young children and family.
Leavitt, the first press secretary to have a child while serving,transitioned from maternity leave in July before deciding to step down. She will now serve as an outside advisor to President Trump.
During her maternity leave, various administration officials including VP JD Vance took turns briefing the media. The post-Leavitt press secretary hasn’t been announced.
Leavitt joined the Trump administration as an assistant press secretary during his first term and went on to become his national press secretary during the 2024 presidential campaign.
This year, Leavitt is the fifth woman in a high-ranking position to leave the Trump administration, succeeded by male replacements.
With a tenure of over 18 months, Leavitt’s stint was the second-longest for a press secretary under Trump, outpaced only by Sarah Huckabee Sanders who served for nearly two years.
