Sheriff Bob Gualtieri endorses Sydney Gruters for Congress
Sarasota Republican Sydney Gruters’ Congressional bid has gained the backing of Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri. “Public safety has to come first, and Sydney Gruters knows how to safeguard our society,” Gualtieri proclaimed. “With her experience, sound judgment, and industriousness, she is capable of representing this district effectively. I’m honored to endorse her for Congress.”
With the adoption of a new congressional map instituted by Gov. Ron DeSantis, 31% of Florida’s 16th Congressional District now encompasses Pinellas County. Gualtieri, the current President of the Major County Sheriffs Association of America, has been a prominent figure in the Tampa Bay area for a considerable period.
Gruters, who has also secured endorsements from Sarasota County Sheriff Kurt Hoffman and Manatee County Sheriff Rick Wells, expressed her gratitude for their support. “I’m honored to have Sheriff Gualtieri’s endorsement, and I’m grateful for all the faith they have in my campaign,” Gruters stated.
Gruters, who launched her campaign for Congress in April and has since raised an impressive six-figure sum, is working hard to make her presence felt in the south Pinellas areas now incorporated into CD 16. “Families are struggling despite working hard. We need to reduce costs, address the insurance crisis, and ensure people aren’t priced out of their own communities,” Gruters added.
The district is heavily Republican—56% of voters under the fresh CD 16 division supported Republican Donald Trump for President in 2024. Trump has also endorsed Gruters’ campaign.
