Trump’s Patience Wears Thin with Iran Amid Turbulence in the Gulf
The US President, Donald Trump, has expressed that his patience with Iran is “running out” following discussions with China’s President, Xi Jinping, in Beijing. This comes as tensions rise in the Gulf due to recent attacks on commercial shipping near the Strait of Hormuz.
In a Fox News’ “Hannity” interview, Trump encouraged Tehran to reach an agreement with Washington. The call comes after negotiations regarding Iran’s nuclear program and enriched uranium stockpile hit a wall.
“My patience is wearing thin, they should make a deal,” said Trump, signaling his dwindling tolerance.
The White House reported that Trump and Xi concurred during their meetings on the importance of the Strait of Hormuz staying open for international shipping. They also agreed that Iran should not acquire nuclear weapons.
As per the White House, Xi also voiced his opposition to the militarization of the strait and the imposition of tolls on vessels traversing the waterway, which is a key transport route for global oil and liquefied natural gas supplies.
Additionally, Trump claimed that Xi promised China would refrain from supplying military equipment to Iran. “He said he’s not going to give military equipment, that’s a big statement,” Trump added during the interview.
