Noteworthy flareups around the Strait of Hormuz have been observed in recent days, and the United Arab Emirates faced a fresh attack on Friday.
The Islamic Republic’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, questioned the reliability of the US leadership, expressing skepticism about American motivation in the path of diplomacy. Despite this, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated that diplomatic efforts were ongoing, with Pakistan in contact with the US and Iran.
UK Dispatches Warship toward Hormuz
Meanwhile, Bahrain announced the arrest of 41 people affiliated with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. Bahrain, a Sunni Muslim monarchy with a majority Shiite population, has been leveraging the Iran-US war to crack down on dissent. Iran issued a stark warning to Bahrain, emphasizing the severe consequences of siding with the US-backed resolution.
Iran has primarily blocked the critical Strait of Hormuz since the inception of the war on February 28, leading to a global spike in fuel prices. The US, in retaliation, has enforced its blockade of Iran’s ports. The UK announced on Saturday it was pre-positioning a destroyer to help protect shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, emphasizing a commitment to secure the essential sea lane.
