The U.S. military disclosed on Monday a lethal strike against an alleged drug boat in the eastern Pacific, resulting in the death of a “narco-terrorist”.
U.S. Southern Command affirmed that military personnel executed the attack under Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s orders on a vessel traversing known narco-trafficking routes.
The Department of Defense consistently asserts that these targeted vessels transport narcotics to the U.S.
The U.S. has carried out over two dozen strikes on suspected drug boats, claimed the lives of more than 100 people in the Pacific and Caribbean since September as per Pentagon.
President Donald Trump, speaking to reporters on Monday, refrained from specifying his “end game” in the region, but gave a warning to Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.
“He can do whatever he wants, but if he plays tough, it’ll be the last time he’s able to do so,\” warned Trump.
When asked if the ultimate goal was to displace Maduro from power, Trump responded: “That’s his decision. It would be prudent for him to do that.”
Trump extended his warning to Colombia’s President Gustavo Petro, a leftist who has incurred Trump’s dislike after he publicly rejected the boat strikes, said, “He’s no ally of the U.S.”
“He’s ignoble and he’s got to be careful,” Trump warned. “We love the Colombian people. They’re fantastic, intelligent, remarkable. But their new leader is a troublemaker, and he needs to be cautious,” he added.
