AFT Nurses and Health Professionals Rally to Adopt Resolutions

The AFT Nurses and Health Professionals community gathered on July 16, urging members to utilize their collective voice in favor of the resolutions proposed for the AFT 2026 convention in Washington, D.C. They emphasized that the union’s power is not in unanimous agreement but in the willingness to engage and respect differing opinions.

Anne Goldman, co-chair of the AFT Nurses and Health Professionals program and UFT vice president, echoed the importance of unity and voiced, “When we’re together, we are unstoppable. The momentum and power of this union allow us to add our voice.”

Members were also called upon by the AFT’s political department to help mobilize 200,000 voters for the November 2026 midterm elections. The gathering served as a platform for reflecting on the past two years of union activities and setting priorities for the upcoming year as part of its ongoing Code Red campaign.

AFT Members Share Victories And Future Goals

The meeting allowed members to discuss recent successes and strategies aimed at strengthening their locals and improving conditions for healthcare workers and patients. Affiliates from across the nation shared accomplishments that ranged from contract gains, legislative wins to recovering over $500,000 through grievance arbitrations in New York.

Looking into the future, delegates outlined key objectives such as launching organizing and bargaining campaigns to secure enforceable staffing standards and comprehensive workplace violence protections. They also aimed to increase member engagement and expand staffing ratio protections across all units and departments.

John Brady, co-chair of the AFT Nurses and Health Professionals PPC, voiced his satisfaction over the meeting saying, “The fact that we are so many independent locals working together in a federation allows us to experiment with different solutions.”

The meeting concluded with a “solidarity slam”, where delegates used creative expression to inspire unity and reinforce their commitment to continuing their work.
