Stanford Health Care has announced that it will be laying off 95 employees this fall. These employees, who are from the technology and digital solutions and other administrative departments, will remain on payroll until Nov. 2, when the layoffs will take effect.
The worksite of the affected employees is located at 1830 and 1840 Embarcadero Road in Palo Alto. Stanford Health Care spokesperson Lisa Kim said, “Stanford Health Care regularly reviews its operations and the needs of the patients we serve to ensure our workforce is aligned with those evolving needs. We are providing active support for redeployment within the organization where possible and opening new roles with the opportunity for impacted employees to apply.”
Kim also mentioned that these positions do not provide direct patient care, and the changes will not affect Stanford Health Care’s ability to deliver high-quality care to patients. However, she declined to comment on the factors that led to the layoffs.
According to a public WARN filing with the state’s Employment Development Department on Aug. 28, 23 of the roles impacted had the title “principal clinical systems analyst,” 13 positions were categorized as “team lead – IT clinical applications,” and 16 positions were in the human relations department.
This is not the first time Stanford has had to let go of its employees. Last year, 363 staff members were laid off from Stanford University. Though they work in close partnership, Stanford Health Care and Stanford University are separate legal entities.
