Dykema Assists Dynacq Healthcare in Hospital Sale Amid Bankruptcy Filing

Dykema, a renowned legal company, recently successfully helped its client, Dynacq Healthcare Inc., in the selling of a hospital and the transfer of a unique physician-owned hospital license. Dynacq, a 33-year-old physician-owned hospital operator based in Houston, offers specialized services in orthopedic, bariatric, neuro-spine, and general surgeries.

In December 2025, Dynacq sought protection under chapter 11 bankruptcy in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas. This followed their financial struggles, despite holding one of the remaining 250 physician-owned hospital (POH) licenses in the U.S, a license currently irreplaceable under federal law. This license allows physician practices and specialty groups to internally refer surgeries.

Dykema provided legal counsel in the sale of Dynacq’s assets under Section 363 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code. Dykema’s William Hotze took the lead on this transaction, with assistance from Dominique Douglas and Cameron O’Connor.
