TL/DR –

Ashworth Drugs, a Cary, North Carolina pharmacy that has been open for 67 years, will be closing its doors in the next few days. The decision comes as the son of the original founders, Paul, is retiring and there are no other family members to take over the business. The pharmacy will remain open until all stock is sold, after which the future of the location remains uncertain.

Ashworth Drugs in Cary, N.C., Closing After Almost Seven Decades

After nearly 70 years of operation, a well-known local pharmacy in Cary, N.C., Ashworth Drugs, will soon be closing its doors. Ralph Ashworth and his wife set up the establishment 67 years ago, with their son, Paul, acting as the pharmacist for the past three decades.

With the upcoming retirement of Paul and no other family members in the pharmacy business, Ralph, now 91, has decided it’s time for Ashworth Drugs to close. He stated, “I’ve been here every morning for 67 years, so I’ll have some adjusting to do. But change is the only constant, and I believe in that.”

The pharmacy has earned the respect and love of many throughout its operation. Michelle Azzone, a longtime customer who now resides in Tennessee, traveled back to express her gratitude to the staff. She said, “They genuinely care about their people. If you need help or have a question, they’re always there.”

Now, everything in the store is being sold at half price, and Ralph plans to keep the store open until everything is sold out. He has received several inquiries regarding the store’s future location but intends to be careful about making a decision.
