In a tragic incident in Sterling, Virginia, a firefighter lost his life in a horrific house explosion on Friday night. This was confirmed by the Loudoun County Fire and Rescue Department.

The explosion occurred in the 300 block of Silver Ridge Drive. Several mayday calls were dispatched from the scene, with one highlighting a firefighter being trapped under debris.

Loudoun County Fire and Rescue Asst. Chief, James Williams, expressed the gravity of the situation. He stated, “This is the worst call we can respond to. It’s a time when we need to support and hold each other.”

The explosion resulted in a wide range of injuries, affecting nine firefighters and two civilians. Williams described the damage to the house as extensive, with debris strewn all over the street and neighborhood.

The Loudoun County Fire Department responded to a call about a natural gas smell around 7:40 p.m., with the explosion occurring shortly after their arrival.

Washington Gas also arrived at the scene to assist in the investigation. They extended their sympathies to the injured and expressed sorrow for the loss of the firefighter.

Local resident, Kyleigh Krishreck, described the incident as chaotic with smoke and debris falling from the sky. She, along with several other neighbors, reported damage to their homes from the explosion.

As a result of the incident, the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office has closed Northbound Silver Ridge Drive at Seneca Ridge Drive.
