Michigan communities who opted for adult-use marijuana sales received their part of over $87 million in revenue for 2023. The Marihuana Regulation Fund paid out this amount to 99 cities, 30 villages, 69 townships, and 71 counties in Michigan. For Michigan’s 2023 fiscal year, each municipality and county with a licensed retail store and microbusiness will receive more than $59,000.

Wayne, Washtenaw, Kent, Oakland and Bay counties and cities such as Detroit, Ann Arbor, Lansing, Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo earned the highest revenue. The total shared revenue of $87 million marks an increase from the $59.5 million distributed for the 2022 fiscal year.

2023 state fiscal year had more than $290.3 million available for distribution from the Marihuana Regulation Fund. State law dictates the distribution rules from the Marihuana Regulation Fund. In addition to the $87 million distributed to municipalities and counties, $101.6 million was sent to the School Aid Fund for K-12 education and the same amount to the Michigan Transportation Fund.
