Amphitheater Replaces 201 Market: Historic Building Demolition

The demolition application has been submitted by Grand Action 2.0, the organization behind the new project. The departments that were housed in the building will be temporarily relocated and then permanently moved to a reconstructed building at 1500 Scribner.


Demolition of Grand Rapids Building Paves Way for New Amphitheater

A former City of Grand Rapids building is slated for demolition, as revealed by Grand Action 2.0, the organization behind the upcoming Acrisure Amphitheater project. This move is essential to make room for the 12,000-seat venue, which will be situated at 201 Market.

As per a Grand Action 2.0 spokesperson, the demolition application is already submitted. The buildings to be torn down include the Administration Building, Streets and Sanitation Building, and Street Maintenance Building.

Additional buildings along Market Ave. are also set for demolition. The City of Grand Rapids has a relocation plan in place for the departments currently housed in 201 Market. Although the departments will be temporarily relocated, the final destination is a building at 1500 Scribner.

Demolition at 201 Market could kick off as early as May 1, 2024.
