Boosting Health Care: Fresh Researchers Seize Rare Chance

TL/DR –

The Kaiser Permanente Northern California Division of Research (DOR) is currently hosting 11 postdoctoral research fellows who are undertaking research to improve health care delivery. The article introduces several of these fellows, their previous work or study, and why they wanted to join the DOR. All fellows expressed enthusiasm for the DOR’s impactful research, collaborative opportunities, and access to extensive data infrastructure, and many cited the prospect of improving patient outcomes and health care experiences as key reasons for joining.

Kaiser Permanente Postdoc Programs Bolstering Health Care Delivery Through Research

The Northern California Division of Research (DOR) at Kaiser Permanente is hosting one of its largest groups of postdoctoral research fellows. These 11 early-career researchers are conducting studies under the mentorship of DOR experts. The aim of these studies is to enhance health care delivery at Kaiser Permanente and beyond.

Meet the Research Fellows

Postdoctoral research fellows like Scott Casey, MD, MS, are focused on health care innovation within Kaiser Permanente’s learning health system. Prior to joining KPNC, Casey was an emergency medicine resident at the University of California, Davis, where he collaborated with research scientists at DOR.

Another fellow, Brianna Costales, PhD, was attracted by Kaiser Permanente’s rich electronic health record data. As a student of pharmaceutical outcomes and policy at the University of Florida, she found the opportunity to contribute to the Mental Health Research Network (MHRN) captivating.

Luke P. Grosvenor, PhD was drawn to DOR by its exceptional team of researchers and mentors. Having completed his PhD in psychiatric epidemiology at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, he’s now thrilled to explore new areas of research while studying modifiable risk factors for autism in KPNC’s Autism Research Program.

The Research Journey Ahead

Doctoral graduates like Alicia Peterson, PhD, and Emma Tucher, PhD, are excited to be part of the DOR family. Thrilled by Kaiser Permanente’s holistic approach to improving health, they are eager to conduct research that enhances patient health while addressing social determinants of health.

Maha Mian, PhD, a second-year fellow in the NIDA T32 substance use training program, was excited to receive formalized training in clinical informatics and expand her research into the equitable design and implementation of AI tools in health care.

Aaron A. Tierney, PhD, a former student of Health Policy at UC Berkeley, was attracted to DOR’s data-driven system and the career development opportunities available.

Moreover, recent additions Ashley Aller, MD, and Murtaza Mogri, PhD bring their expertise in clinical research and bioinformatics respectively, strengthening the DOR’s commitment to improving patient outcomes through evidence-based care.
