Experience Thrills: Marquette Mountain Ski Season Reopens

TL/DR –

Marquette Mountain in Michigan reopened for winter sports after being closed for snowmaking. The resort typically opens in mid-December, but warmer weather had caused a loss of snowpack. According to General Manager Kaet Johnson, winter sports not only attract visitors to Marquette Mountain, but also benefit local lodging and service industries.

Marquette Mountain Reopens for Winter Sports After Being Temporarily Closed for Snowmaking

After a temporary closure for snowmaking, winter sports enthusiasts can once again ride the slopes of Marquette Mountain. The mountain had to temporarily close due to loss of snowpack in warmer weather earlier in December.

Marquette Mountain’s General Manager, Kaet Johnson, expressed her excitement for the reopening, which didn’t fall too far behind the resort’s usual mid-December opening. Despite skiers and snowboarders missing out on the holiday week, the slight delay in opening is not unusual.

Johnson emphasized the positivity of reopening, stating, “Today is the day that we re-open to guests, and we’re completely excited and just so happy to have everybody here. Winter activities are an integral part of our community culture. We’re winter people up here, and having these activities to do is awesome.”

Johnson also highlighted how winter sports tourism benefits more than just Marquette Mountain. The influx of visitors also provides a significant boost to the local lodging and service industry.
