Chicago Woman Goes Missing on Bahamas Yoga Retreat

The niece of Chicago resident, Taylor Casey, reported last known location of her aunt’s mobile was in the water off Paradise Island in the Bahamas, where Taylor was taking part in a yoga retreat. Taylor was last seen on June 19 at the Sivananda Ashram Yoga Retreat, near Nassau.

Sivananda Ashram Yoga Retreat informed the U.S. Embassy and Casey’s family about her disappearance. However, the U.S. State Department declined further comments citing privacy concerns. The Royal Bahamas Police Force are currently investigating the matter.

Endorsed by Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop lifestyle brand, the yoga retreat is regarded globally as an excellent place to study yoga. Taylor, a seasoned practitioner, had visited the Bahamas previously for a yoga retreat in February.

Family Fears for Taylor Casey’s Safety

Traysia Conard, Taylor’s niece, revealed that Taylor’s iPhone was traced to a location in the water. Taylor’s mother, Colette Seymore, expressed her deep concerns about her daughter’s safety and announced a trip to the Bahamas to aid in the search. Anyone with information can contact the Royal Bahamas Police Force or Crime Stoppers.

U.S. State Department Issues Bahamas Travel Advisory

Earlier in the year, the U.S. State Department issued a Level 2 travel advisory for the Bahamas due to high crime rates. The travel alert highlighted gang-related violence in Nassau and Freeport, advising tourists to exercise increased vigilance.

Despite the U.S. government’s cautionary advice, Bahamian Prime Minister Philip Davis insists that the Bahamas is a safe and welcoming destination, arguing that the crime alert does not reflect the general safety in The Bahamas.
