The eatery, which will be situated at the former site of the Magnetic Theatre, is expected to open in the summer and will offer a variety of Italian-inspired sandwiches, soup and salad options, as well as desserts and coffee. Aside from being a destination for food enthusiasts, the Black Cat Sandwich Company is also designed to cater to patrons of the art studio located in the same building.

New Flavor Added to River Arts District: Black Cat Sandwich Company

The River Arts District is set to welcome a new establishment to its diverse culinary scene – Black Cat Sandwich Company. This upcoming venture is the joint effort of Suzy Phillips, owner of Gypsy Queen Cuisine and Simple Cafe & Juice Bar, and business partner Dave Campbell. Located at 375 Depot St., the former site of the Magnetic Theatre, the 20-25 seat restaurant is scheduled to open this summer.

Inspired by Phillips’ multifaceted travels and a deep-rooted fondness for mortadella, the sandwich shop has always been part of her dream. This aspiration turned into a concrete project when local artist Jaime Byrd proposed the idea of launching a concept to complement the building’s art studios.

The restaurant, set to start decorating soon, aims to include the local artistic vibe in its ambiance.

Black Cat Sandwich Company will not only serve as a quick bite spot but will also offer patrons of the art studio an opportunity to unwind with food and beverages before making a purchase.

The menu is a tribute to Italian sandwiches, featuring naturally cured meats like mortadella and speck, house-roasted beef, porchetta, and fresh cheeses on a variety of bread. To balance the savory, they’ll offer treats like tiramisu, panna cotta, and beverages from Volcancito Coffee, including beer, wine, cocktails, and mocktails.

Phillips aims to inaugurate the Black Cat Sandwich Company by August. Stay tuned for more updates about this exciting new addition to the River Arts District.
