TL/DR –

Graham House and Sean McMullen, executive chef and chef de cuisine respectively at the new Luminosa restaurant, are known for their approach to Italian cuisine that changes the menu frequently based on local and seasonal ingredients. The restaurant, housed in the Flat Iron Hotel, also has a cocktail menu that uses byproducts from the kitchen. Additionally, the hotel hosts a variety of culinary spaces including a café, a rooftop bar, and a forthcoming basement speakeasy, The Red Ribbon Society.

New Restaurant Luminosa Asheville Offers Unique Culinary Experience

High school friends Graham House and Sean McMullen hold the head chef positions at the newly-opened Luminosa restaurant. Their similar passion for food and coincidental tasting interviews led them to this destination.

As part of the Indigo Road hospitality group, they were entrusted with the Luminosa concept at the Flat Iron Hotel about a year ago. The Italian restaurant was born out of the existing pizza oven and pasta cooker.

Luminosa’s Asheville-focused Approach

House and McMullen’s ever-changing menu reflects their creative impulses but also captures the essence of Asheville. By sourcing from local farmers and food purveyors, they ensure the menu follows the unpredictable whims of the seasons. Currently, the menu boasts dishes like campanelle with country ham and nettles, and flowering broccoli with puffed quinoa.

Emphasis is given to accommodating the changing local produce availability, demonstrating the restaurant’s commitment to cooking hyperlocally and hyperseasonally.

Equal importance is also given to cocktails, with Beverage and Restaurant Manager Sarah Charles utilizing byproducts from the kitchen’s cooking process to create unique drinks.

Investigating Luminosa’s Space

Alongside a masterful menu, Luminosa’s aesthetics align with its historical home in the Flat Iron Hotel. The cozy interior, filled with light and vintage touches, provides warmth and elegance. Original details and references to the building’s history can be found throughout the space.

Beyond dinner, Luminosa hosts the Caffe serving coffee and pastries, while the rooftop offers inventive cocktails and stunning vistas. A basement speakeasy, The Red Ribbon Society, is set to open later this month.

Luminosa’s city center location aims to attract locals downtown for a memorable meal. The restaurant opens daily at 5 p.m. and is located at 20 Battery Park Ave.
