Italian Restaurant Owner Gives Back to Cancer Community

Personal experience has inspired the owner of The Italian Daughter, Melissa Maggiore, to help families affected by cancer. Her father’s cancer diagnosis exposed her to the reality that many face.

Maggiore explains, “Cancer is the great equalizer. It has a heart-wrenching way of connecting us all.” As the eldest of two, she found herself playing a significant role in her father’s fight against Glioblastoma and Stage 4 small-cell lung cancer in 2019.

In tribute to her father’s love for food and beverage, Maggiore opened “The Italian Daughter” in North Scottsdale. Her mission is to support other families impacted by cancer through her restaurant.

As part of her community outreach, The Italian Daughter will donate all proceeds from every pizza sold to the Cancer Support Community Arizona until May 24th. “We wanted to give back something meaningful following National Pizza Party Day,” says Maggiore. She emphasized the invaluable support they received during her father’s treatment, inspiring her to do the same for others.

Julie Dunnigan, CEO of CSCAZ, a nonprofit organization that offers over 100 programs a month to anyone affected by cancer at no cost, appreciates donors like Maggiore. “CSCAZ has been helping those affected by cancer for 25 years thanks to generous donors,” Dunnigan shared.
