
Multiple Tornadoes Strike Northern Minnesota on Wednesday
TL/DR –
The National Weather Service confirmed several tornadoes in north-central Minnesota on Wednesday, causing substantial damage to properties, especially in Aitkin County. The storm damaged homes, campers, cabins and boats, particularly along Rabbit Lake and Clamshell Lake. The National Weather Service has not yet determined if the tornadoes were all part of the same system or multiple smaller ones, nor has it assigned an EF rating to the bursts.
Confirmed Tornadoes Ravage Northern Minnesota
The National Weather Service confirmed multiple tornadoes in north-central Minnesota on Wednesday night. Significant damage was reported in Aitkin County, particularly in Cedar Lake and Hammal Lake regions.
Images shared with 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS depicted severe damage to lake homes on Hammal Lake, including one home displaced into the water. Damage was also observed on Rabbit Lake, north of Crosby in Crow Wing County, where homes, campers, cabins, and boats were affected.
Several homes and resorts around Clamshell Lake, west of Crosslake, also suffered damage. In response, Red Cross teams are assisting storm recovery efforts in Crow Wing and Aitkin counties.

The NWS hasn’t yet concluded if the damage in Crow Wing and Aitkin counties was due to a single tornado or multiple smaller tornadoes. They have yet to assign an EF rating to the tornadoes.
A weak tornado, ranked as EF-0, was also confirmed to have followed a 5-mile path in Wright, Minnesota, within northwestern Carlton County.
