The best state to become a millionaire in the US, according to the ranking, is California, taking the top spot with a score of 80. The ranking shows that 17.9% of California’s population are already millionaires. This likely hinges on the fact that the state has more venture capital than most of the rest of America.

The second spot was snagged by New York state, with a score of 72, while Massachusetts came in third, with a score of 71.

States with the Lowest Scores

The states where becoming a millionaire is least probable are Mississippi, scoring a low 2 points, followed by Arkansas and West Virginia.

When it comes to the best US cities to become a millionaire, it’s no surprise that California holds three of the top four spots. San Francisco holds the top spot, followed by San Jose at second place, and Los Angeles at fourth place. The third spot was claimed by Boston.
