A poll of swing state voters conducted by the Wall Street Journal shows the 2024 race between Vice President Harris and former President Trump as too close to determine an outright leader. The poll, which was conducted between September 28 and October 8 among 600 registered voters from each of these seven states, shows Harris has secured some Republican support, as around 9% of Republicans support her, according to a New York Times/Siena College poll.

A Close Presidential Race – A New Swing State Poll

The latest Wall Street Journal poll indicates a neck-and-neck race between Vice President Harris and ex-President Trump among swing state voters.

Harris narrowly leads in Arizona, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Georgia, while Trump holds a slight edge in Nevada, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania as per the poll. Prospective voters were asked to select amongst several candidates, including third-party and independent ones.

In Arizona, Harris leads with 47% support, 2 points ahead of Trump. 2% prefer other candidates, and 6% are undecided.

The poll reports Harris’ 2-point lead over Trump in Michigan and 1-point leads in Wisconsin and Georgia. Conversely, Trump leads by 5 points in Nevada and by a point in North Carolina and Pennsylvania.

The poll highlights 8% of Republican support for Harris in Arizona, suggesting a possible shift among some Republicans towards Harris.

Harris has been actively showcasing her bipartisan support, including featuring former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) on her campaign trail. A recent New York Times/Siena College poll indicates that about 9 percent of Republicans back Harris.

The WSJ poll sampled 600 registered voters from each of the seven swing states from Sept. 28 – Oct. 8. The total sample of 4,200 has a margin of error of plus or minus 1.5 percentage points, with a 4 percentage point error margin for each state sample.

Regardless of other national and swing state poll results, the competition between Harris and Trump remains tight less than a month from Election Day.
