TL/DR –

US Senate candidate Kari Lake has refused to apologize for publicizing details of her Democratic rival Ruben Gallego’s divorce, which was unsealed this week. Gallego and his ex-wife have called for an apology from Lake for allegedly lying about their family and divorce circumstances. Lake has been trailing Gallego in polls and fundraising, and has been known for baseless claims about election fraud in the 2020 presidential race and her own 2022 gubernatorial elections.

US Senate Candidate Kari Lake Unapologetic About Spotlighting Rival’s Divorce

US Senate candidate Kari Lake refuses to apologize for drawing attention to Democratic rival Ruben Gallego’s 2016 divorce, which was unsealed this week. Despite little news being revealed, Lake has consistently raised the issue in recent weeks.

Gallego and his ex-wife, Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego, have called for Lake to retract her comments. They maintain their divorce was sealed to protect their son, born shortly after the divorce was filed in December 2016.

Lake insists she sees no reason to apologize, hinting that Gallego should apologize for his behavior instead. Kate Gallego has endorsed her ex-husband in the race.

Lake’s personal attacks on Ruben Gallego have been intensifying despite her trailing behind him in polls and fundraising. Meanwhile, former President Donald Trump leads Vice President Kamala Harris in Arizona polls.

Lake, known for baselessly claiming the 2020 presidential and her own 2022 gubernatorial elections were fraudulent, remains ambiguous about accepting the results of the upcoming Nov. 5 election.

“Of course, if this race is run, campaign is run lawfully, in accordance with the law, there’s nothing more than I want to accept that,” she told reporters Friday. “Absolutely, and I hope it’s a lawfully run election that will have no problems. I think everyone’s worried. I know that you in the media aren’t.”

When asked for the measuring stick of a lawful election, Lake avoided the question and launched an attack on the media.

Lake used a news conference Friday to shift focus to her eight-part “Mama Bear” initiative, a list of policy priorities in Congress. These include promoting school choice, increasing funding for police departments and advocating for European-style protections for food safety and transparency in labeling.
