WASHINGTON, D.C. – Three years of Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) Benefits in Northwest Washington
Since the signing of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) three years ago, over $386 million has been invested into infrastructure improvement projects within WA-02 communities according to Rep. Rick Larsen (WA-02), senior Democrat in the Transportation & Infrastructure Committee.
“We celebrate infrastructure day every day here in Northwest Washington, thanks to the BIL,” said Larsen. “We’re creating jobs, building a cleaner, safer, and more accessible transportation system. We’re focusing on projects like the Lynnwood Link extension, EV charging infrastructure at Mount Vernon Library Commons, and upgrades for safer roads, highways, and bridges.”
Investments in WA-02 Communities
The BIL has funded numerous projects within WA-02 communities, amounting to over $386 million in total. These range from road, bridge, and infrastructure improvements to initiatives for building safer and greener communities.
Some key investments include $25 million each for the City of Lynnwood and Whatcom County, $10.9 million for the Lummi Nation, $9.5 million for the city of Blaine, and $7.4 million for the Port of Anacortes, among others.
Building Safer and Greener Communities
Significant funds have also been allocated to safety and sustainability projects such as the Stillaguamish Tribe’s Red Cabin Creek Wildlife Overpass project, the Puget Sound Regional Council’s comprehensive safety action plans, and the City of Burlington’s rail crossing improvements. BP Cherry Point Refinery in Whatcom County received $26.76 million to increase sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production, and the City of Mount Vernon got $12.5 million to install electric vehicle (EV) charging ports.
Public Transportation Improvements
Public transportation has seen major improvements with $341.4 million for Sound Transit’s Lynnwood Link Extension, $18.5 million for Whatcom Transportation Authority, and $14.96 million for Island Transit, among others.
