Hidalgo County Introduces First Virtual Care Station

Hidalgo County Health & Human Services Department, in partnership with OnMed, Molina Healthcare, and United Healthcare, has launched its first virtual care station, providing no cost basic primary health care services to the community. The OnMed Care Station is located at the county clinic on E. Hackberry Avenue, McAllen.

This health care station connects patients with medical professionals through secure video consultations. Offering prescriptions, diagnoses, specialist referrals, and more all within a private sound-proof environment, it utilizes innovative technology to provide basic medical services. The station was officially unveiled at a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Sept. 3.

She praised the OnMed Care Station as an ‘innovative clinic in a box’ that provides healthcare access for everyone, everywhere. Kelsey Letcher, COO of Molina Healthcare Texas, expressed her honor in partnering to bring no cost healthcare to Hidalgo County citizens. Emphasizing this initiative’s impact on improving health and well-being, she highlighted the importance of breaking down barriers to preventative care.

Noting Molina’s service to about 65,000 Medicaid and CHIP members in the Hidalgo service area, she underlined the importance of accessible care, stating, “Everybody deserves access to care, and we are committed to making that a reality.”

Patricia Longoria, representative of United Healthcare, expressed her pride in collaborating with Hidalgo County, Molina, and OnMed. Emphasizing the innovation of the OnMed care station, she said it would bridge the healthcare access gap and improve healthcare access and outcomes.
