Trump Pardoned Capitol Attackers Committing New Crimes
The count of President Trump’s supporters, recently pardoned for their participation in the US Capitol attack, involved in subsequent crimes has risen to at least five.
Ryan Nichols, 35, was the most recent perpetrator, allegedly displaying a firearm in a confrontational manner in a Harleton, Texas, church parking lot on May 10.
Nichols had pleaded guilty in 2023 for his participation in the Capitol insurrection by Trump supporters post-2020 election. Sentenced to over five years in prison, Nichols was one among the 1,500 protesters pardoned on Trump’s second presidency commencement day in January 2025.
Recently, Nichols was involved in a dispute outside a church, escalating to the point where he brandished a firearm and threatened another person, as per a sheriff’s office statement report.
After a fearful confrontation, Nichols was arrested for deadly conduct and released on an $8,000 bond after two days, as documented in county jail records.
Hopes of a congressional career, declared by Nichols in April 2025, were thwarted when he withdrew from the race, as reported by KLTV.
A database maintained by the non-profit Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (Crew) highlighted over 30 Capitol attackers pardoned by Trump who are facing charges in other incidents.
Among the pardoned are four individuals, including Nichols, who have been accused of committing new crimes, according to Crew. Noteworthy is Christopher Moynihan, convicted for harassment over death threats to Hakeem Jeffries, the US House Democratic leader, and Zachary Alam, sentenced to seven years for a burglary in Virginia.
