The U.S. Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee on July 22, pushed forward several bills, including the Patients Deserve Price Tags Act, aimed at making healthcare affordable and accessible for Americans.
“This bill could save American families roughly $1,000 per year”, stated U.S. Senator Roger Marshall, M.D. (R-KS) in a press briefing about the Patients Deserve Price Tags Act.
Consumer groups praised the passing of the Patients Deserve Price Tags Act and other healthcare affordability bills. “The adoption of these bills shows the palpable momentum on Capitol Hill to address the high cost of healthcare”, declared Families USA executive director Anthony Wright.
The Council for Affordable Health Coverage also lauded the bill’s progression, stating it will aid patients in making informed decisions and avoiding unexpected costs by strengthening healthcare price transparency requirements.
However, the bill received criticism from the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), citing operational challenges for academic health systems and teaching hospitals. Despite these concerns, the AAMC did show gratitude for the progression of the EMPOWER Health Act and the Title VIII Nursing Workforce Reauthorization Act of 2025, agreeing with 73 other healthcare organizations that these initiatives are crucial to ensuring patient access to quality care.
