Ishpeming City’s Christmas Preparations 60 Years Ago

Half a century ago, Ishpeming city initiated its Christmas preparations. Edward Farley, the superintendent of public works, declared that crews started assembling Christmas decorations throughout the city. Around 40 wreaths with an equal number of stars were to adorn each of downtown Ishpeming’s junctions, beautifying the city. The setup would feature over 1,200 lights from stringers alone. Farley also revealed plans to procure a large evergreen tree from Mrs. William Lawer, who volunteered it from her property. The tree, approximately 40 feet high, would be stationed near the statue of “Old Ish” in the city square. The city workers aimed to complete the Christmas decorations installation by December 2.
