The weather system next week will be warm, causing the Sierra snow levels to start high and potentially drop below 7,000 feet by Wednesday, affecting travel on the Interstate 80 and Highway 50, and will also lead to heavy snow above 8,000 feet in ski resorts.


Northern California Weather Forecast

Clear skies are forecast for Northern California this weekend, followed by beneficial rain next week. Expect sunny conditions on Saturday with highs in the mid-60s in the Valley and upper-60s in the Foothills. Although Sunday will see increased cloud cover, it should remain dry, according to Chief Meteorologist Mark Finan. A shower before midnight is possible.

Monday through Wednesday are set for on-and-off rain with some dry periods. Rainfall is predicted to be 1.5 inches or more in several Valley areas and 2-3 inches on the West Slope of Sierra.

Tahoe Area Snow Forecast

Next week’s weather systems are likely to be warm. This indicates high Sierra snow levels, starting above 8,200 feet on Sunday and 8,700 feet on Monday. Tuesday will probably see a mix of rain and snow, while Wednesday might feature cooler air, potentially lowering snow levels below 7,000 feet. Travel on Interstate 80 and Highway 50 near 7,000 feet elevations could be affected by snow. Ski resorts may experience heavy, wet snow above 8,000 feet.
