Teenager Falls to His Death while Taking Photos at Utah Overlook
A 19-year-old man, Jonathan Fielding, tragically fell to his death while taking photos at a popular Utah overlook known as Moonscape Overlook, according to CBS affiliate KUTV. The incident, which occurred on Saturday, is reported by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office as an accidental death.
Fielding, originally from Missouri, had recently moved to Orem, Utah. He was hiking with friends near Moonscape Overlook, a popular spot that provides stunning views of Utah’s Blue Valley. The sheriff’s deputies believe that Fielding fell while trying to get a better view of the canyon.
A GoFundMe fundraiser was launched by family friends to cover the funeral and other expenses related to Fielding’s death. The fundraiser has collected over $26,000 as of Thursday. Conor Parry, the organizer, described Fielding as an energetic and genuine individual who always made others feel important.
Fielding’s sister Rebecca shared a heartfelt message on Facebook, hoping that the tragedy serves as a caution to others about the risks of hiking. She stressed that no view is worth a life and the suffering of family and friends, or the risk faced by rescuers.
“Jonathan was so young, so happy, and full of life. It doesn’t feel right being in a world without him. Jonathan should be a cautionary tale to anyone who hikes or does photography. Never trust the ground on the edge of a cliff,” Rebecca wrote.
