Among the eight notable hoagie shops that rival Philadelphia, Phoenixville and West Chester stand out for their delightful offerings.

The long-standing Bob’s Haven Deli in Phoenixville takes pride in its unique hoagie variant dubbed the “zep.” Operating for over six decades, Bob’s Haven Deli has kept their sandwich recipes authentic and straightforward.

The defining elements of a zep include a long roll, a single type of meat and cheese, as well as onion and tomato slices, further seasoned with salt, pepper, and oregano.

West Chester’s Classic Hoagie Offerings

In West Chester, Lorenzo’s Steaks on the East Side upholds tradition with their hoagies. While they offer a range of breakfast options, wings, and cheesesteaks, The Keystone News has a particular fondness for their Nigerian option: a hoagie combining American cheese, roast beef, turkey, tomato, lettuce, and onions.

Owner Christos Moscharis grew up in West Chester and took over the family shop from his father.
