Arizona Republican Pleading Guilty to Involvement in Trump’s Fraudulent Elector Scheme
Lorraine Pellegrino, part of 11 Arizona Republicans acting as Trump’s electors, pleaded guilty to filing a fraudulent Electoral College certificate. She faced charges for alleged involvement in a plot to manipulate Arizona’s election results.
Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes charged 11 false electors and several Trump associates in a sweeping indictment in April. While Trump wasn’t directly charged in Arizona, he was singled out as an unindicted co-conspirator by a state grand jury. Trump also contends with federal and Georgia state charges related to his bogus elector scheme and efforts to overturn Biden’s win.
Pellegrino’s plea deal marks a significant advance in the fake electors case in Arizona. Earlier this week, Jenna Ellis, a former Trump campaign attorney, started cooperating with prosecutors to get her charges dismissed.
Being the first to admit criminal culpability in the elector scheme, Pellegrino’s deal includes three years of probation with no jail time. Dozens have been charged in multiple states related to this case.
“Lorraine Pellegrino’s acceptance of a plea for a lesser charge shows her wish to move forward,” stated her attorney Joshua Kolsrud. “She’s wholly responsible for her actions, showing her dedication to uphold the law and positively contribute to the community.”
