TL/DR –

The aggregate of polls from RealClearPolitics shows that President Donald Trump’s net disapproval rating surpassed his approval rating mid-March. In the most recent poll from The Economist and YouGov, 50% of respondents disapproved of Trump’s handling of the presidency, and 48% said they approved. However, while Trump’s approval rating is currently underwater, it is higher than it was at this time during his first term as president.

American’s perception of President Donald Trump’s performance takes a turn

A significant change in the American perception of President Donald Trump’s leadership has unfolded this month, as per a collective of polls.

On March 13, Trump’s net disapproval rating exceeded his approval rating, a trend which continued for the rest of the month according to RealClearPolitics’ polling aggregate.

This is the first time in Trump’s second term that his approval rating in the aggregate poll has been less than his disapproval rating. The poll as of March 27, shows his approval rating at 48% and disapproval at 48.8%.

Several polls included in RealClearPolitics’s average this month also indicate a decrease in Trump’s approval rating.

Polls reveal growing disapproval

The most recent poll from The Economist and YouGov, conducted from March 22 to March 25, found that 50% of the 1,600 adult respondents disapproved of Trump’s presidency, with 48% approving.

This demonstrates a decline from their earlier survey from March 1 to March 4, where approval and disapproval were tied at 49%. Three subsequent surveys by The Economist and YouGov further substantiated this decline.

Additionally, polls from Emerson College show a drop in Trump’s approval rating from early to late March.

Trump’s second term approval rating fluctuating

Another polling aggregate posted on VoteHub.com revealed a similar trend, showing Trump’s approval rating was initially higher than his disapproval rating at the start of his second term. However, by March 10, his net disapproval rating had surpassed his approval rating. As of March 27, his average approval and disapproval ratings stood at 47.8% and 48.6% respectively.

Comparison to first term

Despite the current decline, Trump’s approval rating remains higher than at the same point in his first term. On March 28, 2017, the disapproval of Trump’s job performance was nearly 10 points higher than the approval rating as per RealClearPolitics.

Interestingly, Trump’s personal favorability rating is also higher than during his first term.

In a video post, CNN political analyst Harry Enten showed figures from his own polling aggregate indicating that Trump has a relatively high favorable rating. However, the unfavorable view towards him still prevailed. Enten pointed out, the president’s popularity is closer to its peak now than it was when he won or during this point in his first term.>
