Reports confirm the arrest of Jeanine John Taele, 38, a Downey resident, at the Trump National Golf Course in Rancho Palos Verdes, days before a scheduled presidential visit. Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department suggests Taele was seemingly “monitoring security-planning activities” at the location.
Taele’s arrest was initiated by federal agents after they discovered a loaded magazine with hollow-point bullets in his pocket. He was seen taking photos and videos around the golf course premises.
Investigations revealed Taele was under scrutiny for a robbery in El Segundo. Deputies found a loaded pistol in his vehicle in the golf club’s parking lot.
Taele was detained on charges of carrying a concealed firearm and possession of prohibited ammunition. Further search at his residence uncovered an illegally modified AR platform rifle, a .45-caliber pistol, body armor, high-capacity magazines, ammunition, multiple notebooks containing disturbing statements, and two radio signal devices.
Bilal A. Essayli, First Assistant U.S. Attorney, stated that Taele has been federally charged with possession of an unregistered short-barreled rifle, an offense carrying a minimum 10-year prison sentence.
The arrest occurred two days before Trump’s fundraiser visit to Los Angeles. However, there were no direct threats to the president linked to Taele.
Trump arrived at the golf resort via Marine One helicopter on Tuesday evening. Taele, currently under custody, faces charges for a robbery in 2025 and the recent incident. His specific charges include second-degree robbery, possession of a large-capacity magazine, a concealed firearm in a vehicle, and a short-barreled rifle.
In an unrelated event, Ryan Routh was arrested in 2024 for an attempted assassination on the president at the Trump International Golf Club in Florida. Routh is currently serving a life sentence.
