NY AG Letitia James’ Lawyer Refutes Trump Official’s Mortgage Fraud Allegations
TL/DR –
New York Attorney General Letitia James’ lawyer, Abbe Lowell, has responded to a Trump administration official’s criminal referral accusing James of mortgage fraud. Lowell has dismissed the allegations as baseless and accused the Trump administration of political retribution, arguing the claims lack credible foundation. Previously, James had sued Donald Trump for alleged financial fraud resulting in a fine climbing to over $500 million due to ongoing interest.
NY AG Letitia James’s Lawyer Responds to Mortgage Fraud Allegations
A representative for New York Attorney General Letitia James has addressed a criminal referral by a Trump administration official to the Department of Justice (DOJ). The referral alleges James committed mortgage fraud, but she has dismissed the claims as unfounded.
James’s lawyer, Abbe Lowell, penned a letter to U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi, labeling the action as politically-motivated retaliation. In Lowell’s letter, he argues that the allegations are devoid of any credible foundation and have long been disproven.
In 2022, James sued former President Donald Trump over financial fraud allegations. Trump was found liable and fined $354 million, a figure now exceeding $500 million with accrued interest, as he continues to appeal.
The Charges Against AG James
William Pulte, Federal Housing Director, alleged in his referral that James falsely reported a Virginia property as her primary residence, wrongly listed the number of units in her Brooklyn home to obtain a better loan, and was inaccurately recorded as her father’s spouse on a separate loan application.
In response, Lowell systematically addressed each claim, accusing Pulte of selective evidence analysis, and offered counterarguments backed by pertinent documentation.
If any issues remain unaddressed, Lowell requests that the DOJ communicate them promptly, otherwise he expects a swift response confirming closure of this referral matter.
