Rep. Brian Mast Addresses Constituent Concerns Over Trump’s Tariffs and Government Efficiency
Yesterday, Florida Republican Rep. Brian Mast faced criticisms from constituents over President Trump’s tariffs and the Department of Government Efficiency’s (DOGE) downsizing efforts during town halls in his congressional district.
In Jupiter, one attendee described President Trump as “an inoperable, malignant tumor to this country,” as reported by local NBC affiliate WPTV.
Mast, serving Florida’s 21st Congressional District north of West Palm Beach, addressed concerns about potential Social Security and Medicare cuts. He reassured constituents, saying, “Let’s be clear about Social Security and Medicare, it is not on the chopping block.”
During the Jupiter town hall, WPTV reported one person being escorted out. Another participant expressed dissatisfaction with the responses received, stating Mast was “mainly agreeing with President Trump’s initiatives.”
At the Palm City town hall, DOGE was defended by Mast. When constituent Tina Dunchey expressed apprehension about the Elon Musk-driven initiative, Mast responded, “You can count on my 100% support for DOGE.”
Mast also defended Trump’s controversial tariffs, despite an attendee terming them as “wildly chaotic” and doubting their ability to “stimulate manufacturing in the United States.” In response, Mast emphasized that other countries impose tariffs on the U.S. and stated, “We’re not at a point of free trade yet, but we’re fighting to get there.”
