Rudy Giuliani to Face More Questions Over Contempt of Court Hearing

TL/DR –

Former lawyer for Donald Trump, Rudy Giuliani, faces further questioning over his refusal to surrender valuable assets to satisfy a $146m defamation judgment against him. The judgement resulted from a defamation lawsuit by former Georgia election workers, Ruby Freeman and Wandrea Moss, who claimed Giuliani spread false information about Trump’s 2020 election loss, resulting in racist and violent threats against them. The assets in question include a baseball jersey signed by Joe DiMaggio, the proprietary lease and co-op shares to Giuliani’s Manhattan apartment, and the title document for a Mercedes-Benz convertible.

Rudy Giuliani faces further scrutiny over contempt-of-court hearing

Ex-Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani is anticipated to answer more queries following last week’s contempt-of-court hearing. The hearing was due to his refusal to relinquish valuables, including a Joe DiMaggio autographed Yankees jersey, to address a $146m defamation judgment against him.

Giuliani will testify remotely on Monday, answering questions from his attorney. Previously, the questions were posed by lawyers representing Ruby Freeman and Wandrea “Shaye” Moss, former Georgia election workers whom Giuliani was deemed to have defamed.

Freeman and Moss are asserting for U.S. District Judge Lewis Liman to rule Giuliani in civil contempt, for his failure to surrender the jersey and other items to offset their $146 million judgement against him.

The sum was awarded due to Giuliani’s dissemination of false claims about Trump’s 2020 election loss which led to a wave of racist and violent threats against the pair. Their lawyers have urged the court to enforce “appropriate sanctions” to ensure Giuliani’s adherence to court orders following his repeated breaches of deadlines to provide assets and financial data.

Giuliani denied concealing other Yankee memorabilia and declared that the DiMaggio jersey is “missing”. He refuted a claim by his friend Monsignor Alan Placa that the jersey was seen in Giuliani’s Florida property within the last two years.

Freeman and Moss’s attorneys argue that Giuliani has displayed “a consistent pattern of willful defiance of the Court’s Turnover Orders,” and cite his failure to provide the lease and shares to his $6m Manhattan apartment, bank account cash and the title for a Mercedes-Benz convertible.

Additionally, Giuliani faces a second contempt proceeding in Washington, D.C., this week over his continual defamation of Freeman and Moss on his livestreamed “America’s Mayor Live” show, despite a court order to stop.
