Trump Allies Urge Supporters to Vote Early at Pennsylvania Campaign Stop
TL/DR –
During a Trump campaign bus tour in Pennsylvania, allies of Trump made appeals to his supporters to cast their votes early. The messaging around early voting has changed significantly for Republicans this cycle compared to Trump’s 2020 run, when he and his allies questioned the legitimacy of early voting. As per current statistics, registered Democrats account for 60.2% of the ballots submitted in Pennsylvania, while 29.9% are from Republicans and 10% more are from independents or third-party voters; an improvement for Republicans compared to the 2020 election when they held 24% of the mail-in and early in-person vote.
Trump Allies Rally Supporters to Vote Early in Pennsylvania
During a Trump campaign bus tour in rural northwestern Pennsylvania today, allies of the former president strongly urged supporters to vote early. The call, noted during the New Castle stop, was firm and decisive, challenging any Trump fans yet to cast their ballot.
David Bossie, a Republican National Committeeman from Maryland and a top official on Trump’s 2016 campaign, initiated the charge. “We must vote and vote early. Get your butts to the polls and bank votes before early voting ends,” he urged acerbically to the crowd of about 100 supporters.
Surprising, considering how the Trump campaign cast doubts on the legitimacy of early voting during his 2020 run. Despite some supporters still having reservations about the security of early or mail-in voting, the need for early votes seemed to outweigh doubts.
Bossie explained that chasing late voters wastes valuable campaign resources. “We must bank your votes early so we can go find those low-propensity voters that are going to turn out for Donald Trump.”
Slippery Rock Mayor JD Longo echoed the sentiment. “When we vote early, we free up valuable campaign resources”, enabling the campaign to focus on less motivated voters, he implored.
Current data shows that registered Democrats account for 60.2% of Pennsylvania’s submitted ballots, with 29.9% from Republicans and 10% from independents or third parties. This reflects a slight improvement for Republicans compared with 2020’s election.
Former Trump’s ambassador to Denmark, Carla Sands, urged Pennsylvania Republicans to change their habit of late voting. “I’m asking you to change that and save our country,” she said.
