Trump Attains Record Low Approval Rating on Economy, Survey Reveals

President Donald Trump has hit a new low rating on the economy, according to a recent poll.

The latest NPR/PBS News/Marist poll indicates a growing public concern over the U.S. economy, despite Trump’s optimistic claims. The survey reveals that 61% of Americans feel the economy is failing them personally, with only 39% believing it’s working to their advantage.

Confidence for the country’s future has also waned. The poll shows 57% expressed pessimism for 2026, turning over last year’s 56% optimism for 2025. Additionally, 63% of respondents feel the nation is heading in the wrong direction.

Economic issues such as high prices and a perceived recession also contributed to the negative outlook. A majority (52%) believe the U.S. is in a recession, and 7 out of 10 Americans find the cost of living unaffordable. Nearly 25% stated their monthly expenses exceed their income.

The poll also indicated Trump’s economic approval rating dropped to its lowest level throughout his presidency. Just 36% approved of Trump’s economic management, including a drop from independent voters, of which only 24% approve.

The Democrats edged over Republicans concerning the economy, with 37% believing Democrats manage it better against 33% siding with the Republicans. Trump’s overall approval rating also sunk in the poll, with 38% supporting his leadership while 54% disapprove.

An earlier series of polls also depicted a downward trend in Trump’s approval rating on the economy. An AP-NORC poll showed Trump with just a 31% approval rating on the economy, a significant drop from the 40% approval at the start of his term.
