Biden: The Issue – Heatmap News

TL/DR –

Joe Biden is currently trailing Donald Trump in national polls for the upcoming presidential election. His presidency, which has been marred by a significant problem with communicating his policy successes, has seen notable actions taken to decarbonize the American economy. Despite this, Biden’s inability to effectively communicate these accomplishments has resulted in low awareness among the public, which could potentially jeopardize his re-election.

Joe Biden Struggles in Presidential Polls as Climate Initiatives Remain Unknown

Joe Biden trails Donald Trump by about two points in national polls according to the FiveThirtyEight average, a gap larger than any Democrat has faced at this point in the election since Al Gore in 2000. This may signal a general fatigue with Democrats and a global wave of anti-incumbent sentiment. His struggle is also evident in swing state polls where there’s a significant gap between Biden and Democratic Senate candidates. For example, Senator Tammy Baldwin leads Biden by 12 points in Wisconsin, a key state for re-election.

This issue is particularly critical for those advocating for a decarbonized American economy. Biden’s impressive climate record includes the successful passage and signing of the Inflation Reduction Act, the most significant climate law in US history. His administration also proposed rules to significantly reduce heat-trapping pollution from power plants, cars, trucks, and the oil and gas sector.

Despite these achievements, nearly 60% of voters are unaware of the Inflation Reduction Act, based on the Heatmap Climate Poll. Biden’s climate initiatives are largely unknown even among Americans who consider climate change a pressing issue. An April CBS News/YouGov poll stated that half of Americans who prioritized climate change knew little about Biden’s efforts.

Trump, on the other hand, has repeatedly demonstrated his disregard for climate regulations. He intends to overturn the EPA’s new climate proposals in his second term, including requirements for more electric vehicles. Trump’s administration plans, known as Project 2025, include ending energy efficiency standards and closing offices concerned with climate change.

The challenge lies in Biden effectively communicating his policy achievements and thereby securing his re-election. His performance in the first presidential debate and his few public appearances since then reveal his struggle in delivering clear, memorable messages. Consequently, even his significant climate achievements remain underreported and overlooked.
