TL/DR –

President Joe Biden reminded Americans that all Republicans, including controversial Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, voted against his Inflation Reduction Act, a law that has spurred a wave of manufacturing and clean energy projects across the US. The act contained billions in green tax credits for companies building infrastructure for renewable energy, leading to $500 billion in manufacturing and clean-energy investments since its enactment. More than half of all clean energy projects are in districts represented by House Republicans, according to Climate Power, a clean energy advocacy group.

President Biden Reminds America of Republican Votes Against Landmark Climate Law

On Thursday, President Joe Biden highlighted the unanimous Republican vote against his prominent climate law, now triggering a surge of manufacturing and clean-energy projects nationwide. He specifically targeted Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., who opposed the Inflation Reduction Act last year.

“Over 60 domestic manufacturing announcements have been made during my term,” remarked Biden in West Columbia, S.C. “One of the largest is in Dalton, Ga.—Marjorie Taylor Greene’s district.”

He then announced, “I’ll be present for the groundbreaking.”

The Inflation Reduction Act provided green tax credits to companies developing electric vehicles, charging stations, and renewable energy infrastructure. Greene’s district will soon house a $2.5 billion solar manufacturing facility by South Korea’s Hanwha Qcells, projected to generate 2,500 jobs.

President Joe Biden speaks about his economic agenda at Flex LTD, Thursday, July 6, 2023, in West Columbia, S.C.

Since the Act’s signing in August, private companies have announced $500 billion in manufacturing and clean-energy investments, according to the White House.

Embracing his “Bidenomics” economy strategy, Biden highlighted a $60 million solar investment from Enphase Energy, partnering with manufacturing company Flex to produce 600 jobs in South Carolina.

“Jobs previously destined for Mexico, India, Romania, and China are now coming to South Carolina,” announced Biden.

The project resides in Rep. Joe Wilson’s district, who did not attend the event. The White House had informed Wilson about the event, said deputy White House press secretary, Andrew Bates.

More than 142,016 new jobs have been announced in 31 states due to clean-energy projects since the Inflation Reduction Act became law, according to an analysis from Climate Power. They also discovered that over half of all clean energy projects are in districts represented by House Republicans.

“The laws I have signed are providing more aid to red America than blue America,” said Biden. “That’s fine with me because we’re all Americans. We should be helping wherever the need is greatest.”
