While Maine law necessitates that candidates for office file a financial disclosure, gubernatorial candidates are currently exempt. The only requirement is for the winning candidate to file a disclosure post-election.
Proposed Legislation by Maine Ethics Commission
In response to this, the Maine Ethics Commission is proposing legislation that would necessitate gubernatorial candidates to submit an identical personal finance disclosure form that is currently required by legislative candidates.
Financial Disclosures of Other Gubernatorial Candidates
Among the three gubernatorial candidates, Rick Bennett’s personal finance disclosure is already available to the public due to his position as a state legislator. His disclosure presents multiple sources of income originating from self-employment and business entities.
Bobby Charles’ campaign has unveiled his financial disclosure to Maine’s Total Coverage. The disclosure reveals his 2025 taxable income was $164,422 and his property’s value as of 2025 was $631,600. All this income was earned through his consulting and lobbying firm, The Charles Group LLC.
Hannah Pingree, on the other hand, disclosed that her primary source of income stemmed from her role as Director of Policy Innovation in the Mills Administration. Additionally, her husband, Jason Mann, reported earnings from North Haven Sustainable Housing and his work as a filmmaker. Detailed in the disclosure was also the fact that one of their dependent children made over $2,000 working at a restaurant on North Haven, their place of residence.
