Climate Advocacy Teams Flexing Power

22

TL/DR –

Advocacy Teams will lobby Congress in 2025 to preserve clean energy tax credits included in the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act. These credits have driven economic growth and helped the U.S. stay on track to halve emissions by 2030, but they could be eliminated under proposed Republican budget reconciliation plans. Their removal could lead to $336 billion lost investment, 97,000 fewer jobs, and a 10% rise in electricity bills.

Advocacy Teams Expand Campaigns to Protect Clean Energy Tax Credits in 2025

After a decade of progress, our Advocacy Teams are ready to tackle more. Previously focused on single campaigns, the Teams in 48 states are now ‘flexing’ their advocacy for a second priority. The 2025 focus? To persuade Congress to uphold the clean energy tax credits introduced by the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act (IRA).

The current Republican majority in the 119th Congress intends to extend corporate tax cuts and modify immigration and healthcare policies, potentially funding this with reductions to the IRA’s clean energy tax credits. These cuts could significantly hinder the fight against climate change.

Cutting these tax credits could halt economic growth, impede emission reduction targets, and cost the U.S $336 billion in investments, 97,000 jobs, and a 10% increase in electricity bills.

Protecting IRA’s clean energy tax credits is a practical method to reduce living costs, combat climate change, and boost resilience. Advocacy Teams are calling on Congress members to oppose the repeal of these important investments, which are crucial for job creation, economic development, and family affordability. Fortunately, these tax credits have bipartisan support, with 21 House Republicans expressing their opposition to their elimination.

As we head into a new Congress and presidential term amid local and global challenges, it’s crucial that Congress hears your voice. Help protect these historic investments for a sustainable future. Learn more about this issue here. Interested in joining an Advocacy Team? Find out more today!
