The Birth of a Trillionaire and a New Era of Space Millionaires
The SpaceX debut on the Nasdaq exchange on June 12 marked a historical moment: it created the first-ever trillionaire and more than 4,000 new millionaires.
With a record-breaking initial public offering (IPO) pricing its shares at $135 apiece, the company’s stock price skyrocketed. As eager investors bought shares under the ticker symbol SPCX, trading opened at $150 per share and quickly climbed 26.48% to $170.75 by 1:36 pm ET.
How SpaceX’s IPO Transformed the Wealth Landscape
Elon Musk, SpaceX’s CEO, already the world’s richest man, became significantly wealthier. His wealth soared with the surge in SpaceX shares, on paper making him the first-ever trillionaire. Furthermore, approximately 4,400 current and former SpaceX employees who held company stock or options before the IPO also found themselves in an enviable position. According to an analysis by Hill.com, around 400 of these employees are expected to earn $100 million or more.
