
EPA Starts Roadshows for Local Climate Funding Access

New Chapter of EPA’s Initiative to Help Communities Tackle Inflation to Start in Albany, NY
Albany, New York kicks off the next phase of the EPA’s Community, Equity & Resiliency Initiative to assist communities in accessing resources from the unprecedented Inflation Reduction Act.
The Community, Equity & Resiliency initiative of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is a pioneering effort to enable communities across the U.S to leverage EPA’s Inflation Reduction Act investments and other funding opportunities under President Biden’s Investing in America scheme. Albany, New York will host the first of these in-person, community-based Regional Roadshow events, starting on January 18.
The Albany Roadshow will be supported by WE ACT for Environmental Justice’s Thriving Communities Technical Assistance Center (TCTAC). WE ACT will enhance the capacity of Albany community members to take impactful local climate action by providing training and assistance in federal grant application systems, proposal writing, and grant management.
EPA Administrator Michael S. Regan commended the Inflation Reduction Act for providing the largest investment in environmental justice and climate action in U.S. history. He emphasized the EPA’s commitment to continue aiding communities historically overlooked and deprived of climate and clean energy investments with resources to access these historic American investments.
Senator Chuck Schumer (NY) also expressed his support for the new initiative, and thanked the EPA for their commitment to working with communities across New York to distribute the necessary funds.
Congressman Paul Tonko (NY-20) praised the EPA’s commitment to fostering community-driven partnerships and facilitating access to historic resources through the Inflation Reduction Act and President Biden’s Investing in America agenda.
The importance of environmental justice and the big funding opportunities provided by the Inflation Reduction Act were also underscored by the EPA Region 2 Administrator Lisa F. Garcia.
Peggy Shepard, Co-founder and Executive Director of WE ACT for Environmental Justice, expressed excitement for the first EPA Roadshow and the opportunity to support organizations working in underserved communities.
The Regional Roadshow is part of the EPA’s Community, Equity & Resiliency initiative, designed to help communities across the nation access EPA’s historic new funding opportunities.
