Family’s Plumbing Business Destroyed in California Wildfires Seeks Work to Rebuild
Plumbing Business Ravaged by California Wildfires
California’s devastating wildfires have led to the destruction of numerous small businesses, including a family-owned plumbing company in Palisades. The business premises, vehicles, and the homes of a majority of the clientele were all consumed by the inferno. However, the owners remain undeterred and are eager to let neighboring communities know that they are ready and available for work.
The Journey of Palisades Plumbing
Palisades Plumbing has been a fixture in the community since 1985 when its owners, Ray and Mandy Church, overcame numerous obstacles, including issues of racism, to establish their business. The company has been in their stewardship since 2007, serving as both a workplace and a second home for the Church family.
“We need exposure. We need people to know that we’re here, and we need help,” Mandy Church said. More details on the family’s journey can be found in this in-depth feature.
Impact of the Palisades Fire on the Business
The first to witness the devastation caused by the Palisades Fire were Ray Church, his daughter Shavahn Ahmadi, and Shavahn’s husband Obai Ahmadi. The sight of their burnt-out trucks and gutted premises left them devastated, not only for themselves but also for their employees.
“They have children and families to take care of, and we took care of them. We worked together as a family,” Mandy Church said, highlighting the deep bond between the family and their employees. The financial impact of the disaster means they have about a month to continue paying their staff before funds run out.
Future Plans and Expansion
Despite the massive setback caused by the wildfire, the owners are looking to expand their services beyond Palisades to include areas such as Calabasas, Woodland Hills, Tarzana, Encino, Studio City, Sherman Oaks, Culver City, Santa Monica, Malibu, Westwood, Brentwood, the entire San Fernando Valley, Santa Clarita, and Thousand Oaks. They also plan to serve the Palisades community again when it reopens.
